Driller – Land Rig
The Driller is responsible for the safe, efficient, and controlled execution of drilling operations on a 1500 HP land drilling rig. This role operates drilling and hoisting equipment, supervises the drill crew, monitors well conditions, and ensures full compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards. The Driller holds direct responsibility for well control and rig floor leadership during assigned shifts.
Key Responsibilities
Operate drilling and hoisting equipment from the driller’s console (drawworks, brakes, pumps, rotary systems, automated systems).
Monitor drilling parameters including pump pressure, pit volume, hook load, torque, RPM, mud properties, and well depth.
Maintain full well control readiness; shut in the well if a kick is suspected.
Verify BOP functionality and ensure proper configuration at the start of each shift.
Plan and supervise daily drilling activities in line with the approved well program.
Conduct flow checks, maintain trip records, pipe tallies, and operational logs.
Lead and supervise the drill crew; ensure clear communication and safe work practices.
Enforce HSE standards, participate in safety meetings, and exercise stop-work authority when required.
Complete accurate daily reports and shift handovers.
Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma or technical certification.
Valid well control certification (IWCF or IADC – Driller level).
Current safety certifications (H2S, First Aid/CPR, Firefighting).
Several years’ experience as Assistant Driller or similar role on land rigs (preferably 1500 HP).
Strong leadership, decision-making, and well control competency.
Ability to work under pressure in rotational field environments.
